Contact and Volunteer Information
The Pit Bull Alliance is an information clearinghouse including groups such as Spay Neuter Kansas City, Kansas City Dog Advocates, No More Homeless Pets Kansas City and many area rescues and shelters. Meetings are called on as as-needed basis and email is directed to appropriate groups (below). Each group has unique volunteer opportunities. Please contact these organizations directly for more information.
- Kansas City Dog Advocates - KCDA is active in fighting ineffective legislation and lobbying for better dog laws. We can thank the folks at KCDA for having played a huge hand in preventing breed bans in Olathe, Raytown, Lee's Summit, Kansas City, MO and Peculiar. They also coordinate Pit Bull University classes and host events to help the animal community and pit bull lovers and owners.
- Pit Bull Rescues Organizations- Mid-America Bully Breed Rescue and Missouri Pit Bull Rescue are the local groups who specialize in pit bull rescue, though many other organizations help pit bull type dogs, too. Both groups save dogs from shelters and find them foster homes or place dogs into boarding until permanent homes can be found. They perform home screenings, host adoption events, and do many other things to help improve the breed's reputation and save lives.
- Spay Neuter Kansas City - The mission of Spay Neuter Kansas City is to reduce the pet overpopulation in Kansas City by assisting those who cannot afford veterinary services on their own. SNKC offers free or low-cost spay neuter surgeries and vaccinations to those who have proof of need. Many of their clients are pit bull owners. Additionally, SNKC has offered their facility as a place for Pit Bull University classes as well as Alliance meetings.
Contact any of the above organizations that you feel might suit your interest the most and they will be happy to let you know where they need the most help. Many people volunteer for more than one organization, so that is an option as well.
Note: Pit Bull Alliance does not have sheltering resources. If you need assistance finding a home for a pit bull type dog, please contact your local pit bull rescue organization or humane society.
