Pit Bull University

Objective: Provide free responsible dog ownership and handling training to all bully breed owners in targeted area

  • Conduct pit bull training classes at Spay Neuter Kansas City
  • Contact interested bully breed owners and confirm enrollment in class
  • Assist trainers with handling, organization, and dog traffic during class
  • Actively locate trainers for conduct future sessions
  • Coordinate class schedules
  • Coordinate Pit Bull University volunteers
  • Create t-shirts for pet owners who graduate from Pit Bull University

 

Spay/Neuter Committee

Goal: Spay/Neuter 70% of all bully breed dogs in the greater Kansas City area by the end of 2008

  • Go door-to-door in targeted areas signing up pit bulls for spay/neuter and distribute door hangers
  • Actively work with churches and neighborhood associations in targeted areas to promote spay/neuter
  • Work with metro animal control departments to distribute spay/neuter information in targeted areas
  • Create flyers for distribution in targeted areas
  • Work on prizes/incentive program to encourage pit bull owners in targeted areas to get their dogs altered
  • Create t-shirts for pet owners who get their pit bulls altered

 

Education and Outreach Committee

Objective: Provide bite prevention, dog safety, and responsible pet ownership education programs to schools, youth programs and community organizations in the targeted area

  • Educate neighborhood associations in targeted areas about pit bulls and Pit Bull Alliance programs
  • Educate community centers in targeted areas about pit bulls and Pit Bull Alliance programs
  • Set up pit bull education programs with schools in urban core
  • Recruit strong leaders in community
  • Host informative and educational booths at clinics, festivals, and other events

 

Legislative Committee

Objective: Support and promote strong and effective breed neutral dangerous dog legislation on both a local and state level

  • Manage calendar of community council meetins and coordinate list of volunteers to speak
  • Crimestoppers TIPS dogfighting hotline
  • Educate towns about anti-tethering ordinances
  • Letters to editor in local publications
  • Appeal to ethics board

 

Marketing / Fundraising Committee

Objective: Spread the word about Pit Bull Alliance programs and how they can help the community

  • Send press releases on Pit Bull Alliance programs
  • Create flyers and brochures for distribution at local shelters and in targeted areas
  • Contact councilmembers and police departments in metro
  • Optimize and maintain website

 

Adminstrative Committee

Objective: Maintain Pit Bull Alliance records, databases, literature, and inventory

  • Maintain volunteer lists
  • Maintain records
  • Manage print and t-shirt inventory
  • Create and maintain databases
  • Measure progress or Pit Bull Alliance progams
